Billy Bean
Grey/brown gelding. Billy came to the Donkey Park with his best friend Crackers in 2002. They originally came from a farm park based in Wales which lost all their other livestock during the foot and mouth outbreak of 2001. As they missed all the attention from visitors they were beginning to misbehave and becoming quite a handful. Therefore we were ask to step in and take them in.

Colleen
White jenny thought to be around 28 years old. Colleen came from a farm in Ireland in 1989 and must have been in foal when she arrived. She was very underweight and poorly and unfortunately her foal was born dead. She was very sad for about 3 months, but with lots of TLC she recovered. Colleen goes out and about to represent the Donkey Park which she loves. Colleen like Roy and Beamish suffers from sweet itch and has her own special rug.

Beamish
Black gelding, Beamish is Grizelda's son (see Grizelda's details). His tail was lost through frostbite whilst out on Bodmin Moor. His poor start in life meant he did not grow well. Beamish also suffers from a severe form of sweet itch, which if untreated can leave him very sore and itchy. He has a special rug to wear during the midge season which prevents the midges biting him.

Grizelda
Grey roan jenny, Grizelda was found running wild on Bodmin Moor with a foal at foot (Beamish) having been abandoned by there previous owner. If they had not been found and taken in Beamish would not have made it through the winter. Grizelda is an extremely stubborn donkey who keeps us on our toes.

Happy
Brown gelding thought to be in his mid 20s. Happy was taken in from a local sheep farmer as he was continuously chasing the sheep! This was probably because he was bored and didn't have any donkey companions. Donkeys should never live on there own as they are a herd animal.

Pebbles
Skewbald jenny, Pebbles arrived from Ireland with 7 other donkeys in 1989. She was in a very nervous state, having been used for scurry racing as a two year old, which had strained her back. It was a long time before we gained her confidence, but now she has learned to trust us. She has to be well rugged during the winter months as the cold can still cause problems with her back.

Ringo
Skewbald gelding, Ringo came to the Donkey Park in July 1999. He originally came from Ireland in a very poor state in March of that year. Luckily he was bought from the dealer by the owners of the beach donkey team at Dawlish Warren. With a great deal of love and care they nursed him back to health, but then found he was too strong for their team. Unfortunately due to the neglect, beatings and mistreatment he received when he was younger he is losing his sight, thankfully the sight loss is developing slowly and he seems to be adjusting to it well.

Dark brown gelding. He was named by the children of Chernobyl when they visited Sorley tunnel, where he was born. At a year old he came to us to be a companion for a donkey owned by a local lady who sadly had just lost one of hers. Up until 2008 he lived with this lady and her donkey Tilly, but it was then decided that he needed to come down to the park for much needed training. So he and Tilly came and joined all the other donkeys. His training is going well and he started giving rides this summer.

Paddy
A dark brown gelding, Paddy came to the Donkey Park in March 2008 from a lady in North Devon who has rescued lots of different equines over the years. She rescued Paddy (along with Percy, Declan and Seamus) from Dublin when they were 6 months old. Unfortunately this kind lady has gone down with severe arthritis and was struggling with the day to day demands of the boys, so we took them in to lighten her load. We hope to train them to give rides but we are having to take it slowly as they are still a very untrusting of people, especially men.
