Our Donkeys

GEMMA - Brown jenny aged 21 years
Gemma arrived at the Donkey Park in 1989, her past history was unknown. When she arrived she looked rather fat and shortly afterwards had a baby. Gemma gives rides.

GEORGINA - Brown jenny aged 17 years
Georgina is Gemma's daughter. The local children named her. Mother and daughter are inseparable. Georgina gives rides.
GRIZELDA - Grey roan jenny 27 years
Grizelda was found running wild on Bodmin Moor with a foal at foot. If they had not been rescued they would probably not have survived the winter.
BEAMISH - Black gelding 16 years
Beamish is Grizelda's son. His tail was lost through frostbite whilst out on Bodmin Moor. He does not give rides due to his poor start in life which meant he did not grow well.
PEBBLES - Skewbald jenny 20 years
Pebbles arrived from Ireland with 7 other donkeys in 1989. She was in a very nervous state, having been used for scurry racing as a two year old, which had injured her back. It was a long time before we gained her confidence, but now she has learned to trust us. She is very gentle and gives rides.
COLLEEN - White jenny aged 26ish years
Colleen came from a farm in Ireland and must have been in foal when she arrived, she was rather poorly and unfortunately her foal was born dead. She was very sad for about 3 months, but with lots of TLC she recovered. She gives rides. Colleen also goes out and about to represent the park which she loves.
ROY - Grey gelding aged 17 years
Roy is Bridget's son and has the same gentle temperament. He has been trained for harness and gives rides.
KIT - Dark brown jenny aged 21 years
Kit came from Ireland in 1993. She was bought from a dealer with money donated to the Donkey Park. She had been tethered with wire and badly treated which has resulted in her front feet being slightly deformed. She does not work because of this.
JACKO - Chocolate brown 17 year old stallion. Came to the park in June 2003 when his owner relocated to France.
SASHA - 8 years. He was named by the children of Chernobyl when they visited Sorley tunnel, where he was born. At a year old he was taken in by us. Up until 2008 he was on loan from the Park to a local lady as a companion to her donkey Tilly
TILLY - 27 years. In January 2008 moved to the Park with Sasha.
KILTIE - Dark brown jenny aged 21 years
Kiltie was bred to work in the peat fields in Ireland, but was too small and therefore her future was uncertain, so she came to live on the Donkey Park. She now gives rides to small children.
HAPPY - Brown gelding aged 21 years
Happy came from a sheep farm because he had a habit of chasing the sheep! We have taught him to give rides, this keeps him busy and out of trouble.
PUNDAR - Grey gelding aged 14 years
Pundar was born at the Donkey Park, his father is a past British Supreme Champion Stallion called Happy Valley Kuoho. He is our smallest donkey, but one of the bossiest. He now gives rides for very small children.
CONNIE - Grey jenny aged 14 years
Connie was born at the Donkey Park. Her mother is Grizelda and her father is the same as Pundar's. She was named in memory of a dear lady who loved the donkeys very much
JOYCE - White jenny aged 13 years
Joyce was also born at the Donkey Park. Her mother is Bridget and she also has the same father as Pundar. She was also named in memory of another dear lady who loved the donkeys.
COPPER - Dark brown jenny aged 36 years
Copper came from Clovelly where she had been used to go up and down the very steep cobbled streets. She is now retired.

With a great deal of love and care they nursed him back to health, but then found he was too strong for their team, so we bought him. Later this year we hope he will be one of our riding donkeys.
